The Ventura Music Festival concludes on Sunday, August 7, at 3 pm, with a concert by what the New York Times calls “America’s most astonishing choir”—The Crossing led by conductor Donald Nally.
The two-time Grammy-winning chamber choir, with 7 more nominations, has recorded 14 commercially released albums since its founding in 2005—dedicated to performing new music, including 140 commissioned world premieres by contemporary composers, all with “a social conscience and fearless technique.” The VMF program includes “new work” by Alt-diva Shara Nova of My Brightest Diamond (and David Byrne associate) plus Ayanna Woods (SHIFT), David Lang (stateless), Caroline Shaw (Her beacon hand beckons, from “To the Hands”), Nicholas Cline (she took his hand) and Robert Maggio (Democracy).
