The UCLA Bands present their final concert of the winter quarter.
The UCLA Symphonic Band, led by conductor Dwayne Milburn and graduate conducting students Michael James and Nicholas Junker, opens with American selections by composers Ryan Beard, Robert Jager, John Philip Sousa, and Eric Whitacre. They conclude their portion of the concert with Milburn’s transcription of the Finale from Aleksandr Borodin’s Symphony No. 2. Following a brief intermission, the UCLA Wind Ensemble, conducted by Travis J. Cross, presents a program entitled “Joyful Noises,” with four contemporary American composers reflecting their own cultural heritages: Un Cafecito by Dennis Llinás, March! by Jennifer Jolley, The Songs of Shim-Cheong by Minoo Dixon, and Come Sunday by Omar Thomas.
