Towne Street Theatre (TST) Virtual Salon presents a Literary Series performance reading of Forty Acres, a thriller by Dwayne Alexander Smith. The story finds Martin Grey, a Black attorney, in the midst of a secret society dedicated to preserving the institution of slavery. But, this time, it is Black men who are called “Master.”
Towne Street brings this timely tale of an alternate reality to viewers as our country continues to grapple with the themes of race, justice and willingness to confront the darkest side of U.S. history. The reading will include selected excerpts from the book, and it will take place via Zoom on Sunday, September 20th at 4pm PDT. There will be a Q & A with the author following the reading.
“Towne Street was founded to seek justice and heal from racial disparities through the arts,” said Nancy Cheryll Davis Bellamy, co-founder of TST. “As the fight for racial justice in America once again reaches a boiling point, we are compelled to raise the voices of authors and artists who offer us important insights into the world we live in today, as well as the history that has brought us to this point. We proudly present this reading to spur contemplation, compassion and conversation about current struggles
Tickets for TST’s reading of Forty Acres are available on a “pay-what-you-can” basis, and they can be reserved here. The reading’s cast includes Shaun Fury, RJ Wayne, Rich Fullman, Glen Philip, Adrian Zeigler, Remy Muloway, Six Smith, Justin Gubersky, Charlotte Williams, Kiziana Jean-St. Louis, Teressa Taylor, Nancy Renee and Sarah Green. The reading is directed by TST Artistic Producing Director Nancy Cheryll Davis, and it is produced by Nancy Cheryll Davis, Nancy Renee, Teressa Taylor, Kristina Roth and Maimouna Camara.
