Acclaimed Saxophonist and Composer Rotem and His Quartet Will Perform Work Inspired by “The Wise One,” John Coltrane
Metro Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) present the Daniel Rotem Quartet, led by acclaimed saxophonist and composer Daniel Rotem, on Sunday, June 16, from 2 - 4 p.m. in a special Father’s Day Concert in the North Patio at Union Station. The program will be a performance of work inspired by “The Wise One,” legendary jazz musician John Coltrane.
Lauded by Downbeat magazine, Rotem is a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston and the world-renowned Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at UCLA. He has played on four continents and shared the stage with legendary artists Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Billy Childs, Esperanza Spalding, Stevie Wonder and Usher.
In 2016, Rotem performed at the White House at an event hosted by First Lady Mrs. Michelle Obama as part of International Jazz Day. He has also played at acclaimed festivals including the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Playboy Jazz Festival, the Red Sea Jazz Festival, and the Montalcino Jazz Festival and at the Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Hollywood Bowl and the Microsoft Theater in LA.
Rotem is currently on the faculty at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. His debut album “Be Nice” was released independently in February 2017.
In addition to Rotem, the Daniel Rotem Quartet features multiple Grammy-winner Billy Childs on piano, bass player Darek Oles and drummer Christian Euman.
