WORLD PREMIERE -When a woman returns home from a concentration camp, she learns her family doesn’t need a survivor…they need a corpse.

- Paris, 1945.  A Jewess, Elizabeth Wolf Pilgrin, has recently returned from a concentration camp.  She is the sole survivor of an immensely wealthy family, and is eager to return to her younger husband and her daughter by another man.  They believe Elizabeth to be dead, and are determined to acquire her huge fortune.  Not recognizing her as their wife and mother, they ask Elizabeth to embark on a bizarre conspiracy – by accepting, she becomes a woman impersonating a woman impersonating herself.  Based on novel of the same name by Hubert Monteilhet, the play underscores the Chinese maxim, "On the tear-stained cheek, the wasp plants her sting." RETURN FROM THE ASHES was also made into a film in 1966 starring Maximilian Schell, Samantha Eggar and Inrid Thulin.
