This free Pico-Union Arts Festival will fill the block of West 17th Street between Union Ave and Toberman St. with visual arts activities, chamber music and opera. Opera Ritrovata will perform works by Gianopoulos, Joseph Bologne and Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre. Artists from Pico-Union Housing Corporation’s The Graff Lab will give live painting demonstrations and display their art in booths.
The festival will be on 17th street behind The Graff Lab (1038 Venice Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015), on Saturday August 24th from 3:30-6:30pm. The Graff Lab is an artists' sanctuary that provides free educational classes and a safe space for artists to work in the Pico-Union neighborhood. Opera Ritrovata will perform works by George N. Gianopoulos, Joseph Bologne “Chevalier de Saint-Georges” and Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre. Students from the Ballet Folklorico Aztlan led by director Elizabeth Alcazar will perform earlier in the festival along with other students from The Graff Lab. Artists from Pico-Union Housing Corporation’s The Graff Lab will give live painting demonstrations and display their art in booths. There will also be food trucks and an arts and crafts table.
This event is made possible by an Arts Activation grant from the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs as well as the generous support of Councilmember Gil Cedillo. This event is free and open to the public.
