Commercium Musicum will be participating in the celebration of a Tridentine Low Mass for the Immaculate Conception, featuring Marian motets from the Iberian Renaissance for voices and period instruments. This is an opportunity to hear glorious music in the setting for which it was intended.
After a successful collaboration with Jouyssance Early Music Ensemble on "A German Renaissance Roadshow," Commercium Musicum is embarking on a new journey: presenting the glorious liturgical music of the Renaissance in the setting for which it was intended. The first effort will be a presentation of Marian motets from the Iberian Renaissance for voices and period instruments, part of a Tridentine Low Mass for the Immaculate Conception to be celebrated at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Wilmington. Commercium Musicum has selected sacred music from Spanish masters Tomás Luis de Victoria and Cristóbal de Morales, as well as their lesser-known colleagues Mateo Flecha el Joven and Alonso Pérez de Alba. Portugal will be represented by composers Manuel Cardoso and Pedro de Escobar. Beyond Iberia, Commercium Musicum will perform pieces by European masters Orlando di Lasso, Adrian Willaert, Claudio Monteverdi, and Lodovico Grossi da Viadana. Vocal soloists will join the core instruments of Commercium Musicum – recorders, sackbuts, dulcian, and positif organ – complemented by harp. The sanctuary of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church offers an ideal venue for the voices and instruments of Commercium Musicum, with a beautiful interior and a highly resonant space.
