The storied history of brass bands goes back to the turn of the last century where brass groups were the ‘rock stars’ of the day because they could travel from town to town and play outdoor concerts andreach large numbers of people due to the natural projection qualities inherent to the instruments.
Having performed in the Canadian Brass for 6 years, Jens Lindemann toured the world playing chamber music with a performance credo that sought to make concerts accessible to all audiences and it is that same philosophy which is sharedby the UCLA students in this ensemble.
Professor of trumpet studies at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, Jens was named to the Order of Canada for his skill as a world-renowned trumpet soloist. Lindemann, a native of Edmonton, Canada, is the first classical trumpet player to receive this honor, which is the highest award given by the government of Canada to citizens deemed outstanding in their fields.
Jens Lindemann, Grammy Nominated Trumpet Player, Former Member of the Canadian Brass, UCLA Professor and "International Brass Personality of the Year" (Brass Herald)
"In my experience as a performer, success lies in the exchange of energy between artist, audience, and music. Transcending the boundaries of style, language and culture is, for me, the ultimate challenge in musical communication."
