Huntington Beach Concert Band Sponsors Free Summer Concert Series
Celebrating 45 years, the Huntington Beach Concert Band will once again sponsor its Summer Series of 11 free Sunday concerts, June 24th through September 2nd in Huntington Beach Central Park.
“The concerts are organized by the Huntington Beach Concert Band as a community service,” said Tom Ridley, who has conducted the band for 41 years.
The Huntington Beach Concert Band Summer Series will take place on the Thomas Ridley Central Park Concert Bandstand, behind Huntington Beach Central Library, 7111 Talbert Ave. at Goldenwest Street. Concerts start at 5 p.m. All are invited to bring picnic dinners and beach chairs or blankets to enjoy the concerts.
Each concert will feature a different band with music styles ranging from patriotic, show and movie tunes, big band and swing, to Dixieland, and Latin Jazz.
On July 15th, 29th, August 5th, 26th and September 2nd, the concerts will be preceded by 30 minutes of free swing dance lessons starting at 4:15 p.m. Wear your dancing shoes!
This free concert series, a Huntington Beach tradition for years and years, continues “thanks to the generous financial support from the community at last year’s concerts, and donations throughout the year,” said Linda D. Couey, the band’s general manager.
The Huntington Beach Concert Band will kick off the series June 24th with a “Music of America” theme. The 80-piece brass, wind and percussion ensemble will perform a variety of patriotic songs and American favorites – Memorial Day, Flag Day and Fourth of July all rolled into one!
On July 22 the Huntington Beach band returns with a “Side-by-Side” Concert with outstanding local high school musicians joining in a program of popular marches and melodies.
One of the oldest and larfgest community bands in Orange County, the Huntington Beach Concert Band is celebrating its 45th year. The all-volunteer band is composed of professional and amateur musicians from around the region. The band has performed at venues throughout Southern California, including the Richard M. Nixon Library, Temecula Wine & Music Festival, Poway Community Band Festival, Santa Barbara Music Festival and Verizon Amphitheater, where for over 20 years band members joined the Pacific Symphony for the finale of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.”
