The Wheel of Fortune Spins
With City Ballet Orchestra, John Nettles conducting, Pacific Coast Chorale, and Escondido Center Chorale
Season 31 closes with two City Ballet favorites. Mozart Concerto is classical ballet at its finest. And the music and choir of Carmina Burana are matched with a powerful Black Tuesday tale that only a high-drama ballet can tell.
Mozart Concerto Mozart’s Concerto for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra is distinguished for being technically and elegantly challenging for both the solo instruments. The same can be said about Elizabeth Wistrich’s classical choreography in this exquisite tutu ballet.
Choreography Elizabeth Wistrich (1989)
Music Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Concerto for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra in C major, K. 299/297c (1778)
Last performed by City Ballet of San Diego in May 2018
Carmina Burana Medieval poetry transformed into a powerful composition for orchestra and chorus. That music married with the tragic story of James J. Riordan during the great stock market crash in 1929. All making for one incredible ballet.
Choreography Geoffrey Gonzalez (2018)
Music Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana (1936)
Last performed by City Ballet of San Diego in November 2019
