MacArthur Fellow cellist Alisa Weilerstein returns to Orange County with the 10-time Grammy-nominated Trondheim Soloists in a program from their highly praised album Verklarte Nacht celebrated for its fluid, effortless dialogue between instruments.
In performances marked by intensity, sensitivity, and a wholehearted immersion, Alisa Weilerstein has established a distinctive musical voice recognized worldwide. Milestones in her career include an invitation in 2009 by Michelle Obama to participate in a widely celebrated and high-profile classical music event at the White House, as well as a tour across Venezuela as a soloist with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra under Gustavo Dudamel. Weilerstein’s growing and celebrated discography includes a recording of the Elgar and Elliott Carter cello concertos that was named “Recording of the Year 2013” by BBC Music.
With its passion and enthusiasm, the Trondheim Soloists quickly established itself as one of the most innovative chamber orchestras, with invitations to collaborate with artists around the world and across genres. Originally an ensemble for training young string players, the chamber orchestra quickly became known for its liveliness and warmth—its youthful energy remaining even after becoming professional.
