A Year In Dragonfly

A Year In DragonflyTHE RAW TRUTH of the affects and healing process after Domestic Abuse.

World Premier of A Year in Dragonfly is the true survival story of one woman’s journey after being brutally attacked by her newlywed husband.

Using all original poetry and music, Austin Musick shares her navigation back from the darkest corners of fear, shame, and depression as she finds a way to no longer tread the water’s of a painful past and begins to fly in the present towards the bright horizon of the future. From nymph in water to dragon in sky.

A Year in Dragonfly opens June 9th as part of The Hollywood Fringe Festival 2019.

“Science has said that the Dragonfly swims as a nymph for almost a year before it begins to fly. As a woman with Native American heritage, I tattooed the symbol for the Dragonfly as a totem upon my arm the day I began my voyage to find my true self. I can officially say, just as my song Risky Whiskey Woman states: “I have been broken, I’ve been beaten, I’ve been left behind. I’ve been cheated, did some cheating and told “I Love You” many times…" But regardless, after all was said and through, I survived.  I not only survived but did so still believing that I would continue to love and would be loved again. It all just needed to start from within.”

Austin Musick (writer, producer, and lead) originally from East Tennessee,  grew up with The Great Smoky Mountains National Park as her backyard where she and her five brothers and one sister spent the days in the woods and on the river. Austin has her BA in Theatre with a minor in business and when not creating, she serves as the President of TAO Enterprises, a Commercial Real Estate corporation on the East Coast. She has lived in California for the past ten years with her two daughters, now 21 and the youngest, 7 years old. As a single mother,  she strives everyday to teach her children the value of having a dream and the perseverance that it takes to being dedicated to that dream. She is represented Theatrically and Commercially by Lovestone Talent Agency and managed by Artists Management Group.

This project was created to bring awareness to the emotional battle a person who has suffered from Domestic Abuse is confronted with in the aftermath. Even after the assailant is gone and the person is considered “safe,” there is so much more struggle to overcome. While this is only one woman’s account of her journey, it is a story that hopes to help others to recognize that they are not alone in their feelings of fear, anger, sadness and shame. It also hopes to help to remind them that with time, patience, self care and positive/creative outlets that healing is possible.
“We don’t have to settle as being the ‘victims’ in life. There is a ‘victor’ in all of us.”
                                                                                                  - Austin Musick
