"The Music Between Us"

Join us for a whirlwind trip around the world - with the voices of the San Fernando Valley Master Chorale! Featuring a collection of substantial choral arrangements of traditional music from countries around the world. Through music, humans can connect beyond any boundaries - including language, political, and cultural.

Music, in all its diverse forms of expression, is one of the strongest unifying forces known to humanity. Composers featured: Eric Whitacre, Shawn Kirchner, Sergio Barer, Sydney Guillaume, Paul Hindemith, and more!

From Artistic Director Charlie Kim: "'The Music Between Us - choral sounds from around the world' was derived from one of the pieces being performed on this concert—the first movement from a recently composed piece entitled “This Love Between Us: Prayers for Unity.” The piece in its entirety is seven movements, each movement representing a form of religion present in current day India. The movements sound very different, but the message is the same—we are one. I wanted to expand the concept of that piece into an entire concert, featuring choral arrangements of traditional music from countries around the world."

Charlie Kim is a southern California native and piano virtuoso. He is cross-disciplined in vocal performance and coaching, solo and collaborative piano, conducting, and teaching. Currently, Charlie is a teaching artist, vocal soloist, pianist, and music director for Los Angeles Opera Education and Community Development. He is also a member of the world-renowned Los Angeles Master Chorale.

The San Fernando Valley Master Chorale is a nonprofit performance organization for choral singers founded in 1990 and representing the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas. Its mission is to foster community engagement and pride through quality performances of chorale masterworks. In addition to local valley venues such as the Madrid Theater, Valley Performing Arts Center (CSUN) and Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, the chorale has performed at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York, and at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Los Angeles.
