The Princes of Kings Road: An Evening of Theater

The Princes of Kings Road: An Evening of TheaterBased on a true incident. After working and living together in the early 1920s in Schindler’s iconic 1921 house on Kings Road in Hollywood, Los Angeles architects Richard Neutra and Rudolph Schindler have a bitter falling out and don’t see each other for twenty-three years until, by coincidence, in 1953, they’re placed in the same room at Cedars of Lebanon hospital.

This is where THE PRINCES OF KINGS ROAD begins. Thrown together, they fight through the years of anger, memories and misconceptions and with the help of their Nurse, are able to evolve to a place of mutual respect and affection. The complex, contentious relationship between Rudolph Schindler and Richard Neutra is a true Hollywood story with a classic Tinseltown ending. Intelligently written and superbly crafted, with projected photos of old L.A and the architects' work, playwright Tom Lazarus’s fantastic meditation on what must have been a jim-dandy of a reunion will intrigue and entertain you.

Starting in advertising for major studios, Tom Lazarus has since won multiple awards for his educational films, written seven Movies of the Week and five feature films, directed and executive produced five seasons of a cable TV hit series and published three books on screenwriting. Producer and playwright Stevie Stern’s credits include staff writer on Melrose Place, associate producer/writer of a reality series, five years as story editor on a cable soap opera, and playwright of 5 plays which have premiered in Los Angeles over the last 2 years.

The Princes of Kings Road was developed at Ensemble Studio Theater in Los Angeles and directed and produced by Tom and Stevie in 2015 to standing room only audiences. Both are thrilled to present this play during Modernism Week.
