Following a successful one-weekend engagement in August, “THE FACE, Behind The Face, behind the face” returns to Theatre West for five weeks of Sunday evening performances.
In “THE FACE, Behind The Face, behind the face,” a performing artist confronts the ups and downs and struggles of his life and career and is led to the conclusion that his voice and his music are the keys to his success. The story provides a framework for the glorious singing voice of vocalist and actor Anthony Gruppuso, who performs in nineteen musical numbers. The songs include favorites from the Broadway canon, pop standards, lesser-known gems, and some brand-new material.
Actor/singer Anthony Gruppuso was last seen as Joshua in the Off Broadway Musical “The Babies” for which he also co-wrote the lyrics. Prior to that he was seen as Uncle Fester in the 3D tour of The Addams Family opposite Rachel York and Bronson Pinchot. He can soon be seen in the role of Couch Ghost in the soon to be released feature “The Invisible Mother”. He has been nominated for Broadway World’s Male Artist of the Year, for his one man Musical “THE FACE, Behind The Face, behind the face”, for which he also received a 2014 Scenie Award for Most Memorable Solo Performance. Other stage appearances include Gerard de Villeforte in the World Premier Musical “The Count of Monte Cristo” , Macbeth in the world premier of “Classic Couples Counseling” directed by Ted Lange, Milton Perry In “The Immigrant” the Musical, (Scenie Award Winner) , Harry Fatt in Theatre West’s “Waiting for Lefty”, Ovation Nominated, Windy Deegan in “Panama Hattie” with Lee Meriwether, Col. Grubbs in “Something for the Boys” with Beau Bridges, Frankie Burns, in “Let’s Face It”, with Bridget Hanley, “Mr. Dago” with Joseph Bologna and Renee Taylor, Rubicon’s “The Man Who Would be King” with Marc Kudish and Kevin Early, Cardinal Nicholas, in Michael Butler’s “Pope Joan” , Interacts’ Award Winning “Urinetown” with John Rubinstein, Disney’s Snow White, An Enchanting Musical (Grumpy) Disneyland, and L.A. Shakespeare’s “The Fantasticks” (El Gallo). He has performed numerous roles at Los Angeles’ Internationally renowned Storybook Theatre and was, Dutch, in Voyage of the Ghost Ship”, Phil in “Hercules the Muse-ical” and King Charming, in “Disney Dreams” at the Walt Disney Theatre aboard the Disney Wonder. As a Cabaret Artist, Anthony has performed his solo shows from Coast to Coast with Stops at Don’t Tell Mama in NYC, Davenports Chicago, The Barker Tavern, Boston, Fahrenheit 451, Denver, and The Gardena, Los Angeles. His work also includes feature films, many more Equity stage productions, Broadway Workshops, national, international, regional, local commercials, and television shows including appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Megan Mullally Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
