Sideways, the widely acclaimed novel by Rex Pickett, receives its world stage premiere as "Sideways the Play" at the Ruskin Group Theatre. Previously adapted as a film in 2004, Sideways garnered numerous nominations and awards, including an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, four NY Film Critics Circle Awards, a SAG Award, six IFP Independent Spirit Awards, and is one of the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Top Ten Films of 2004.

Our Review of SIDEWAYS
“The World Premiere of SIDEWAYS at the Ruskin Group Theatre is one of the most unique and fun evenings at the theater that you will ever have! That assumes that you enjoy wine tasting. Even if you don’t you will like this most enjoyable play which like the iconic SIDEWAYS movie, is based on the novel and written by Rex Pickett.
The first act is brilliant and has some of the best writing that we have witnessed in long time. Some of the dialog in the second act could use a little trimming. But all in all the play delivers. The cast is terrific and the staging as always at the Ruskin is inventive and a pleasure to watch how they skillfully present the material to us on their intimate stage.
As for the wine tasting, at every performance, before the show and during the intermission a vintner is selected to showcase their wine. The night that we were there it was Silver Mountain Vineyards from Santa Cruz showcasing their magnificent Pinot Noir. What fun and you have to wonder why this format hasn’t been done before. The play and the wine tasting are a perfect pairing. So much so that word of mouth will most likely cause the entire run of this play to sell out soon. Get your tickets now.
