Romeo & Juliet

Opening the season with the most famous love story of all time, State Street Ballet portrays William Shakespeare’s poignant classic Romeo & Juliet with stylistic verve.

On October 23rd and 24th The Granada will reverberate to Prokofiev’s haunting score, and the young lovers will come to life in a way that transcends words.

From love at first sight to the star-crossed climax, Rodney Gustafson choreography intensifies this drama with fast-paced action and creates enhanced empathy for the young lovers. Romeo and Juliet explores the human spirit at its deepest levels, and though the couple’s yearning to be together ends in tragedy, they live on as a pure example of eternal love.

In collaboration with The Granada and the Guthrie Theatre acting Company, we celebrate October as the Month of Romance.  Traditionally our separate productions of Romeo and Juliet would make us as adversarial as the Montagues and Capulets, but rather than create two dueling productions we offer our audience the opportunity to enjoy Shakespeare’s classic through movement and language.
