Chromolume Theatre presents the final production of its 2017 Season of Musicals, Stephen Sondheim’s "Pacific Overtures." Featuring musical direction by Daniel Yokomizo, choreography by Michael Marchak, and direction by James Esposito.
The Chromolume production of "Pacific Overtures" will be the first one in Los Angeles in 18 years. The show had its Broadway premiere in 1976 and was nominated for 10 Tony Awards. The story is set in 1853 and follows the difficult Westernization of Japan, told from the point of view of the Japanese. In particular, the story focuses on the lives of two friends caught in the change. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by John Weidman with additional material by Hugh Wheeler, the score is generally considered to be one of Sondheim's most ambitious and sophisticated efforts.
