Renee Taylor Spills the Beans in My Life on a Diet
The husband and wife team of Renee Taylor and Joseph Bologna are developing a new one-woman show, My Life on a Diet, to be presented at the Working Stage Theater, 1516 N. Gardner Street in Hollywood.
The play is based on Renee’s book, My Life on a Diet, Confessions of a Hollywood Diet Junkie, as told through the insane, hilarious but true diets she was on, from her earliest days as a young actress and comedienne. Along the way, she interacted with assorted movie stars, from Cary Grant and Joan Crawford to Marlon Brando and Marilyn Monroe, whose advice she sought on what to eat to make her as slim and/or as famous as they - often with hysterical consequences.
Taylor and Bologna’s first play was the Broadway hit comedy Lovers and Other Strangers. They received Oscar nominations for their film adaptation. In LA, they previously have presented their Broadway plays, If You Ever Leave Me, I’m Going With You, Bermuda Avenue Triangle and It Had To Be You.
In the small, intimate Working Stage Theater, Los Angeles fans will get a rare chance to see the magic of a new play come to life and grow. Working Stage’s Diana Ljungaeus produces and Frank Megna contributes as creative consultant. The exciting multi-media show, My Life on a Diet, has hopes to eventually make it to Broadway.
The workshop production, written by Taylor and Bologna and directed by Renee’s boyfriend of 47 years, opens Sunday, May 26th at the matinee time of 3 pm and will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 3 pm through the end of June. Tickets are $30 and can be reserved by visiting workingstage.com.
