Dances from Le Fate In Italia, Lakme Dances

Dances from Le Fate In Italia, Lakme DancesAmerican Contemporary Ballet Premieres Le Fate In Italia, Lakme Dances

In two new ballets, ACB presents a thrilling tribute to 19th-century opera ballet, including a first-ever sequel to The Sleeping Beauty.

ACB Artistic Director Lincoln Jones takes The Sleeping Beauty's iconic fairies to Italy in Le Fate in Italia, his latest original ballet. Jones reimagines Petipa’s creations in new territory, dancing to music from Rossini’s Guillaume Tell, with new choreography to the pas de six, pas de deux, pas de trois and pas de soldats.

The evening’s tribute to opera ballet continues with Jones’ new choreography to dances from Léo Delibes’ Lakmé, one of the composer’s well-known operas, which includes some of his less familiar, but most compelling ballet music. Jones fuses classical ballet with Indian classical dance to the opera’s Térana, Rektah, Persian and coda movements.

In addition to ACB’s skyscraper views and live chamber music, the program will feature performances from singers who’ve appeared with LA Opera, Los Angeles Master Chorale and other L.A. vocal groups.
