“Ehrhardt’s flair and charisma as a performer are matched by the strength and brilliance of her writing.” Total Theater Los Angeles. Audiences adore her in her critically acclaimed “Jamaica, Farewell,” and now she’s back for a one-night-only performance of her newest play for the Santa Monica Playhouse Benefit Series.
Self-discovery, betrayal, guilt, pleasure and love are explored in this 80-minute show based on true stories of up close and personal encounters with those very complicated members of the opposite-sex. Ehrhardt and renowned director Joel Zwick (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Fat Albert) have teamed up once again and the result is “Guaranteed laughter.” Broadway World.
“When her husband heard the name of her new show, he almost lost his mind. “When I began writing Cock Tales, I thought I was writing about sex. But, I soon came to realize that sex is an entirely different subject,” says Ehrhardt, whose colorful history of a lifetime of encounters with a world full of testosterone-fueled gentlemen, and not-so-gentle men, has given her plenty of source material from which to create a memorable evening of theater – much to her husband’s light-hearted chagrin.
“I can’t shed any light on human sexuality,” says Ehrhardt. “But when it comes to overcoming guilt, I am an expert. Guilt is something we have all experienced, something many of us have taught our children. To the degree that we can more fully liberate ourselves from the guilt that strangles our most joyous impulses, we are able to live our lives as more fully realized human beings. Hopefully, before the evening is through, I will have worked through my guilt and come to a place of comfort with my own actions. And maybe, so will you.” “Unforgettable performance! A must see!” Jamaicans.com
The Santa Monica Playhouse Benefit Series is an innovative program that presents extremely limited engagements of new and developing works by emerging and renowned local, national and international artists, the only program of its kind in the Western United States.
