All musicians know that love and music are inseparable. On February 14th, the University of Redlands Orchestra will be saluting Valentine’s Day with a special performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 “Ode to Joy”, featuring guests soloists: soprano Blythe Cates, mezzo soprano Olga Perez Flora, tenor Jamie Flora, and bass Marty Schaefer.
Joining the University Orchestra in this historic performance will be members of the University Choir, Chapel Singers, Bel Canto and Inland Master Chorale.
Premiered in Vienna in 1824, Symphony No.9 is considered Beethoven’s greatest and most popular orchestral work. Its timeless melody in the Finale, set to a text taken from Federick Schiller’s poem “Ode to Joy”, is a hymn to universal brotherhood and a celebration of humanity.
