Utilizing the Actors’ Equity Los Angeles Self-Produced Project Code, and in conjunction with Jolly Pig Project, a project launched in 2018 as a way to create a community of writers in East Los Angeles, "A Surplus Of", will premiere April 26th, 2018 at Atwater Village Theatre in the 99-seat proscenium house.
"A Surplus Of" examines the intricacies of ethical non-monogamy, not only from the perspective of a regular, long-term relationship, but also from the point of view of the third person:
Lawrence’s situation is fairly recognizable. It’s happened to everyone at some point. He likes a woman who isn’t his girlfriend. He feels terrible and can’t seem to stop. His girlfriend, Michelle, has an unconventional solution, but how do they know they’re making the correct choice? Monogamy is the way to a lasting, loving relationship—they just should be better at it, right? When you compromise your morality, are you automatically an awful person? Can non-monogamy really work if it’s ethical… or is someone always the sucker?
These are the questions that swirl throughout "A Surplus Of", a story told in three acts and across a range of time. Directed by Danielle O’Farrell, "A Surplus Of" is guaranteed to deliver an affecting story that highlights the confusion surrounding this matter, rather than hiding from it.
The World Premiere of "A Surplus Of" runs April 26th, 2018 – May 13th, 2018 at the Atwater Village Theatre. Performances are at 8:00 PM each night—no shows the 1st, 7th, and 8th. Ticket price is $22. We will be hosting a PWYC community night Monday April 30th. There is no possibility for extension.
