Burn This, by Lanford Wilson

The play centers around the characters of Anna (Welch) and Larry (Caron) following the death of their roommate Robbie, and their relationships with Anna’s lover Burton (Major) and high-strung friend Pale (Pak).  What follows is a shattering of their beliefs about love and romance, and desperate  attempts to rediscover meaning in their relationships.  



Burn This, by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lanford Wilson, opens March 4 at the Arena Theatre at Cal State L.A.  

Featuring CSULA Students Ben Caron, Vince Major, Ricky Pak, and Meggie Welch, and directed by Professor Steve Rothman, BURN THIS explores disconnected relationships, unconsummated passion, heated romance, and questions of gender in the lives of four individuals caught in contemporary twenty-something malaise.  

Professor Rothman saw the original production of BURN THIS, starring John Malkovich and Joan Allen, in 1987, before it went to Broadway, where it ran for 437 performances.  Wilson’s play “Serenading Louie” was one of the first professional shows Rothman directed (in 1979).

Rothman says BURN THIS presents “the reality of the urban environment—people living on top of people—as real as it’s ever been written.  Wilson makes it real.  He knows.”
