The Fountain Theatre opens its 20th Anniversary Season with the West Coast premiere of Ifa Bayeza's daringly theatrical "The Ballad of Emmett Till."

Fountain Theatre's hit production extends for third time through May 30.

Part history, part mystery and part ghost story, Bayeza's lyrical integration of past, present, fact and legend turns the story of the 1955 murder of 14-year old Emmett Till, whose shocking death helped spark the nascent civil rights movement, into a soaring work of music, poetic language and riveting theatricality.

We saw this on March 4th, 2010

“Much praise has been lavished on this production and now we know why.  Playwright Ifa Bayeza provides the gripping details of this drama set in the days of the early civil rights movement. Shirley Jo Finney’s direction is on the mark and keeps you riveted to the story as told by this fine ensemble cast.  The five person cast is exemplary.  It doesn’t get much better!  I feel compelled to single out young Lorenz Arnell for a very credible portrayal of 14 year old Emmet Till.

Go see this one for the story, but you will come out amazed and talking about the superb acting” - performing arts LIVE (mn)
